Tinted eyes

At every corner
a stranger
choking on lies

lies
upon which
lives
are built
strings
of deception
founded on stilts

You see
the color in their eyes
the greyish
tint that does not
fade
and at every corner
a stranger
choking on lies.

The truth
hurts like a stab
through the heart but
the lies, the lies
nurse your wounds, licking at
them gently, patiently
until they heal. The scars
are barely noticeable
but
the poison, the poison
lie deep within
a man’s soul. There’s no way out
now. You’re infected
and there is no cure. You lie
to cover your lies, and more
to cover more lies.

You’re by the corner
choking on lies and I
see you
with
my own
deceitful eyes.
