Forgive the rain

I awaken
to the sound of raindrops falling on concrete.
Smashing into, rather.

The notion is somewhat suicidal.
Raindrops
as martyrs, relentlessly attacking
the sturdy concrete; The impervious surface,
a product of human development.

I awaken
to silent promises; words
that have graced desperate ears one too many times
but have never been carried from mind to mouth and to heart
with meaning.

Words and sand, mixed with concrete. A man
of hardened heart. We refuse to part,
we wish only to remain
naive.
